Despite being #openSource and #free as in free beers .. why did #Linux never become a big player in mass laptop / desktop market ? Why does most laptops run #Windows or #Mac ? #chromeOS - no ?

Most people say
1 . No company manufactured Linux PCs .. but then why did they not ? Cuz obviously there was no demand !
2. There were no apps ! But why didnt developers develop apps for Linux - cuz if the core system is #free , how could a dev make a living !
But here is my convoluted take ..
I think #Linux naver made it to mass market cuz it didn't invent its own interface . .most distros simply copied #Windows or in some cases #Mac ( #Unity skin of #Ubuntu) ..
Wherever it stuck to its guns #CLI , it wiped off the entire server market .. #Linux is around 95 % of serve market ..
Moral of the story - invent your own interface ..or just stick to your truth .. never copy anyone else ..
